Decade Analysis corresponds to the classical Saju concept of Daewun (대운, 大運) — the Great Fortune cycle. Unlike Daily, Monthly, or Yearly cycles, which shift frequently, each Daewun spans approximately ten years, making it the largest and most structurally influential temporal layer in Saju interpretation. If your birth chart is the fixed pattern of energy you were born with, Daewun is the extended road condition through which that energy is expressed. Some decades provide smooth, supportive terrain; others present more friction, challenge, and transformation. Neither is inherently better — both serve crucial developmental functions in a life's arc.
Daewun cycles are calculated from the date of birth by counting the days between birth and the nearest solar term transition. Each day of this interval corresponds to approximately one year of life, and each ten-day grouping corresponds to a Decade Luck period. The result is a personal timeline unique to each individual, with Decade cycles beginning at different ages for different people. Some begin their first major Daewun at age three; others at age eight or twelve.
